Named for Zebulon Pike, an early explorer of the Southwest. He was said to have claimed that the mountain could never be climbed, unaware that the Ute Indians had been scaling the summit long before his sighting in 1806. The Cog Railway, the world's highest railway still in operation, is shown here along with the magnificent mountain.
